Natural christmas and winter gift tags

Natural christmas and winter gift tags made from my printable spirograph paper printed on structured card stock.
The tag shapes I made in Silhouette Studio. You can get the cut file as a freebie from my previous post.
The embellishments are a wild mix of die cuts and machine cut elements I store in transparent candy boxes sorted by theme.

Gift tags freebie cut file

I wanted to make gift tags from my latest printable christmas papers. I printed some sheets of my favorite structured card stock. Then I created some simple gift tag shapes in Silhouette Studio, 6 shapes and copied 5 of them to make them smaller and fill the whole sheet and make the most of the papers. Nothing special, but so handy!

The file might be helpful for you, too, so I share it here as a freebie.
It is european DinA4, but with some minor adjustments you can use it with international letter size, too.

Just click to download and enjoy.

My five favorite tools

I recently have been asked which are my favorite tools. This made me think of what I really don’t want to miss anymore.
Some are very new and some are very old, one is not even mine. Two I had no clue they even exist, but got them from friends.

So here is my list. Have fun!

I start with the oldest, more than 30 years old: my punch I got when I studied fashion design to make holes in leather. Its big advantage is that there is a much higher distance to the edge of an item than with the handy and pretty new little punches and the different sized holes in one tool.

This unspectacular handle is just a heavy weight. It comes from the textile industry to help the pattern stay in place while cutting garments. It is VERY heavy and now I use it for all and everything that may not slip while I work on it. It is on my work table all the time for more than 20 years thanks to a friend. I got it as a gift, because she thought I need this, very thoughtful and so right! We are still close friends, thank you!

This is not mine, but borrowed for good from my partner, who bought this digital gage at the hardware store and never used it. It wandered on my desk and I use it all the time. Mostly I measure my finished product samples for the item descriptions. With one touch you can switch from inch to centimeter, very handy.

This pointy tool is not very old, but you can see already how often I use it. It is hanging on the wall always in place, because I get crazy when I need it and it is covered by stuff. The Craft Pick by Tim Holtz for Tonic Studios. You can get it at the crafts store. I use it for removing little bits from die cuts, pulling thread through tiny holes, making little holes  and maybe some more works I just can’t think of now. Highly recommended.

And this is my number one: the edge blending tool also from Tim Holtz, from Ranger. Last week I got the two little round ones even if the vendor on the crafts show said I don’t need them when I have the big one. This was not true and I am glad I bought them anyway (from an other shop). Now I tried them first time and I LOVE them to color the edges of my die cuts and elements from the electronic cutter. It makes paper crafts look so much better and this is a work I really can relax with. Thank you, Tim!

Snow flakes freebie cut file

Last weekend I’ve been invited to a crafts trade show “Kreativ Tage Berlin” to show the making of my designs I create with the Silhouette Cameo. This was a wonderful chance for me to go in public and to meet users in my own region and I never expected there were so many!
The host company Kreativplotter.de gave me a brand new Cameo to play with so I could try the new touch display. I directly fell in love with the “repeat job” field, so simple and I need this all the time. The new USB slot is very handy while the SD card was a bit little and old fashioned. Apart from that and a new look the machine is almost the same. I don’t think I am going to replace the one I have as long as it is working well.

But I looked at all the Silhouette material I’ve never seen in real and at techniques I’ve never used like cutting fabric, heat transfer, vinyl.
And after I got a presentation of how the pixscan works and what you can do with it I HAD to HAVE a pixscan mat! What a cool thing!!!

I made a lot of new things for the fair and some files in Studio especially for this event like these snow flakes.
It is one page filled with snow flakes of different shapes and sizes. They are cutting very well with white card stock even if they are small.
You just click to download here:

It looks as if I will have more german followers now. So I started to create another blog in german language. There are not too many informations and tutorials for the Silhouette software and machines in german so I plan to focus on Silhouette related things and tutorials more while I focus on artistic things more on my english blog.

I added a link to my new blog at the top menu for those who want to follow.

Happy crafting!
